Abstract

Over the last decades, the growing body of evidence supports the concept that adverse prenatal environmental factors predispose individuals to the development of diseases, including cardiovascular diseases in their adulthood. Changes in nutritional supply during fetal development appear to be a strong signal initiator of adaptive processes, which result in physiological, morphological and metabolic changes, triggering deleterious and lasting effects on health in adulthood, including the profile of blood pressure. Prenatal programming of hypertension is associated with abnormalities of the renin-angiotensin system in the kidney, which may be related to oxidative tissue stress caused by angiotensin II (Ang II) via AT1 receptor and by infiltrating immune cells. Ang II also participates in the regulation of vascular inflammatory response by stimulating the recruitment of inflammatory cells, which can produce Ang II, perpetuating the inflammatory cycle. The aim of the project is to verify the modulation of the renal RAS and the inflammatory mechanisms by the prenatal programming in the adulthood. (AU)
