Abstract

From the biomedical point of view, the owl-monkeys are recognized for their excellence as experimental animals. However, many questions still need to be answered regarding the reproductive physiology of males and females of this species. Will be used 12 adult females (previously established), belonging to the Aotus azarai infulatus breeding colony from the National Primate Center. The females remain unmated during the study period. They will undergo gynecological ultrasound examination and colpocitologyc test every two days for monitoring the ovarian cycle, during three months. The cell cariopicnotic index will be used to determine the estrous cycle phases of the specie and to correlate the data in B-mode and Doppler ultrasound.
