Abstract

We propose, in our research, an epistemological investigation, initially led to what we deem to be the psychoanalysis opening fact, that is, the establishment of the identification of the physic with the unconscious, that gave way to the adoption of the free association method. To do so, we focus, among other concepts, in a freudian concept, which was built in the period from 1888 to 1892, that is linked to the very history of the conception of the unconscious. It is the concept of "counter-will", presented in 1892, in A case of healing by hypnotism. As to demonstrate its status as an important step in the history of the concept of the unconscious - something not sufficiently done so far - it will also be highlighted its relation with the process of repression and the formation of the hysterical symptom, which helped consolidate its structure and its special character and its connection with other of Freud's elaboration, such as resistance, transference and sexuality. The goal, therefore, is to promote its comprehension according to an analytical approach, to date unexplored, identifying it as a representative of a will that is contrary to conscience, that being the reasons why we hope to demonstrate its uniqueness and its embryonic condition relatively, as we suspect , to the history of the concept of "unconscious". Thus, we chose as the base of this research the uniqueness of the (counter)will of the patients, as perceived by Freud in the treatment of hysteria.
