Abstract

The Patos Shear Zone (PSZ) is a macroscale structure from the Borborema Province which evolution is intrinsically linked with the deformation of adjacent Neoproterozoic belts (Orós, Seridó and Cachoeirinha). The Patos Lineament is composed by large E-W to NE-SW mylonite belts which evolved from greenschist facies conditions in the southern part of the shear zone, to amphibolite, including migmatites, in the northern border of the shear zone. Migmatite domes poorly understood in terms of structure and chronology occur within the mylonite belts. This project intends to characterize the deformation mechanisms active during shear zone generation, observed mainly in the low- to high-grade mylonites. It is also concerned with chronology and emplacement processes of magmatic material and its correlation with mylonitization. These data are of crucial relevance to the understanding of the behavior of deformational processes active during the Neoproterozoic in the Borborema Province. (AU)
