Abstract

This research comprises an effort to apprehend the school education as a social form specifically capitalist. Based on the study of a key moment in the history of Brazilian education, the objective is to theoretically investigate fundamental determinations of a school-form, understood as a moment of a contradictory and fragmentary totality - the capitalist mode of production. In this sense, the capital is taken not only as an economic element, but as a social relation that tends, contradictorily, to embrace and dominate several private spheres of social life, at the same time that it allows and requires their autonomization. To accomplish this task, it will be made a study that associate the logical and conceptual process of consolidation of the school form to the conflicting history of education which has produced an schoolaryzed society during the twentieth century, through the action of the State and the expansion of the right to education in Brazil, based on the development of this social form in the Old Republic, with the creation of the school groups - the material presupposition to the constitution of the school as a way in which the education is generalyzed. Through this study, and by light of the concepts of fetishism and reification - which correspond to the movement of autonomization of forms and subsumption of the contents (Marx) - is intended to contribute with the analysis of specific nexus established between the school and the social totality.
