Abstract

This research project aims to describe the phonology and morphosyntax Wauja language, which belongs to the Arawak language family. The people Wauja, with approximately 410 indians, live in the Aldeia Piyulaga in Xingu Park, Mato Grosso. In phonological research, seek to: (a) describe the segments: phones, allophones, consonantal phonemes, vowels and glides, (b)verify standard syllable and syllabification (c) verify the behavior of stress and nasality, and (d) describe processes (morpho) phonological, based on the autossegmental theory proposed by Goldsmith (1990, 1995), Kenstowics (1994) and Clements; Hume (1995).The focus in morphosyntactic investigation will be to: (a) determine the order of constituents: subject, verb and object (b) describe the grammatical categories: time, manner, aspect, (c) check the type of phrase(dependent/independent) and (d) describe the morpho)syntactic processes, according to the study of grammar in the functional-typological perspective, based on authors such as Comrie (1978), Givón (1984), Shopen (1996) and Dixon (1979, 1994).This research project therefore seeks to contribute to the description and documentation of indigenous languages in Brazil, in particular, the languages of the Arawak family.
