Abstract

The lymphoma belongs to a group of malignancies that have in common their origin in lymphoreticular cells, and is generally manifested in lymphoid tissues. In the evolution of lymphoma, there is a generalized reaction of the body in a non-specific and acute injury against local and / or systemic diseases that compromise the homeostasis, known as acute phase response, which leads to a significant change in protein synthesis by the liver, resulting in an increase of some proteins known as acute phase proteins, and the most relevant species in feline are alpha-1 acid glycoprotein and serum amyloid A. Therefore, taking into account the importance of lymphomas in routine clinical care of cats, the measurement of serum acute phase proteins, notably alpha-1 acid glycoprotein and serum amyloid A, can be very useful for monitoring chemotherapy in cats with lymphoma as it can be an increase in their serum at the time of diagnosis, decreased during treatment indicates regression of the disease, and increase again during the event monitoring, indicate recurrence of lymphoma. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate serum levels of acute phase proteins serum amyloid A, ±1-acid glycoprotein and C-reactive protein in cats with lymphoma during chemotherapy. (AU)
