Abstract

The research aims to analyze the Brazilian's travel accounts to the Soviet Union produced between the 1930s and the mid-1960s, historicizing them and emphasizing the diversity of the author's ideologies, and, therefore, the diversity of the images constructed in relation to the Soviet society, set out in these narratives. The research also searches to investigate how the Brazilian intellectuals construct the USSR's image in their accounts in order to understand their anxieties and expectations, as much in relation to the society visited, as well as in relation to the Brazilian society, since the contact with the Soviet regime provoked reflections about the traveler's own society. This project also takes into account the mechanisms and agencies of persuasion and propaganda of USSR that had an influence on the visitor's perceptions. Finally, the study aims to contribute to the integration of the Brazilian travel narratives as a documentary source in social historiography.
