Abstract

The recent discovery of superconductivity in Fe-basedpnictides has triggered enormous interest of the scientific community. In this project, we propose to study superconducting and magnetic properties of intermetallic compounds such as suitably doped EuFe2As2. Initially, we will study samples already synthesized in our group by flux technique. The samples will be characterized by several techniques, namely: magnetic susceptibility, electric resistivity, specific heat and X-ray diffraction. The understanding of local properties will be achieved through electron spin resonance (ESR) experiments.The aim of the project is to understand the competition between magnetic and superconducting phases as well as the mechanisms of unconventional superconductivity in materials which have superconductivity near the borderline between magnetic and non-magnetic phases.
