Abstract

The brain is vulnerable to sanguineous aport disturb. Nerveless the cerebral vascular system present special characteristics to avoid large circulatory variations. Patients that present cerebrovascular disease, like carotid stenosis, have a cerebral vasoregulation deficit, which can lead to isquemic events. An efficient mechanism to assess the vasorregulatory process is the BOLD effect utilization, often used to get functional images by magnetic resonance. The aim of this study is look for specific characteristics of the hemodynamic function response and assess these properties on both cerebral hemifields under different levels of CO2 inhalation. This modulation will be assessed during an auditory stimulus in volunteers, to after be applied in patients with severe carotid stenosis or unilateral carotid occlusion.
