Abstract

This study will evaluate shock wave therapy effects in dogs suffering from osteoarthritis in the hip joint. To achieve this purpose will be evaluated 20 dogs with bilateral osteoarthritis in hip joint. These dogs will receive shock wave therapy in only one of the limbs by randomized selection. The treated limbs will be compared to contra-lateral in three months of follow up by kinetic analysis. The treatment protocol will involve three weekly sessions performed with sedation. Quantitative evaluation of the kinetic evaluation will be performed by pressure-platform monthly. We expect from the results of this study verify the effectiveness of extracorporeal shock wave in dogs with osteoarthritis in the hip joint to contribute with the protocols for treatment of this disease.
