Abstract

It will be done the comparative test of the potency of six cattle and swine vaccines sold in Brazil, adopting the American protocol 9 CFR 113-101 - Leptospira Pomona - 2008. Vaccines will be diluted to 1:800 in the dose recommended for cattle and swine by the manufacturer. The individual dose of vaccine will be applied in hamsters 0.25 mL subcutaneously. The challenges will be made after 15 days of immunization with 0.2 ml of live culture of Pomona, GR-6 strain isolated in Brazil and typified by the VNTR technique, deaths from leptospirosis are recorded. The surviving animals will be euthanized at 14 days of observation and the condition of renal carrier will be investigated by culture of kidney tissue in Fletcher and the use of polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
