Abstract

This study aims to analyze the causes and consequences of the stagnation and subsequent decline in the percentage of people who entered in the college in 1950s and 60s generations in Brazil. Educational historical data will be use to investigate the effects of public policies adopted in education in different states from the 60s. Moreover, an econometric analysis will be run for the period between 1977 and 2009 using data from the "Pesquisas Domiciliares do IBGE" to analyze the evolution of the average number of enrollments in college in each state during those years, looking for the way of its recovery
