Abstract

The aim, through this study, was to evaluate the effectiveness of foliar application of boron, associated or not to ripeners ethyl-trinexapac, ethephon and sulfometuron methyl in pre harvest of sugarcane, the physiological changes and their implications on quality and stalk productivity. This project was composed of three subprojects, the first evaluating the use of boron associated with ethyl-trinexapac, the second to ethephon and third to sulfometuron methyl. For each subproject 4 experiments were conducted at the beginning and at the end of season 4 (2 places and 2 years), so were 12 experiments in early season and 12 in the end of season, totaling 24 experiments. Half of experiments was conducted in areas belonging to Raizen Group / Barra Sugar Mill / Barra Unit (late 2008 and 2009 and early 2009 and 2010 crops) and the other half to the Tereos Group / Guarani Sugar Mill / Cruz Alta Unit (early and late 2008 and 2009). In experiments in early season, was used the variety of sugarcane RB855453 (early ripening) in both locations and in late season was used the variety SP80-3280 (late ripening) in Raizen Group and variety RB867515 (middle-late season) in Tereos group. The treatments consisted in the application of the ripeners ethyl-trinexapac, ethephon, sulfometuron methyl and control (natural aging) associated with the application of boron. The doses used were, respectively, 200 g i.e. ha-1 (0,8 L c.p. Moddus ha-1), 480 g i.e. ha-1 (0,66 L c.p. Ethrel ha-1), 0,15 g i.e. ha-1 (0,20 g c.p. Curavial ha-1) and for boron the dose was 0,18 kg ha-1 (1060 g boric acid ha-1). The spraying occurred in March for early ripening variety and in October to late ripening variety, in both growing seasons. Biometric, technological and nutritional parameters were evaluated: stalk height; pol cane, purity, reducing sugars, fiber, B content in leaves, cane and sugar yield and regrowth. Data were subjected to analysis of variance, considering the following factors: block, days after application (DAA), treatment (control, boron, ripener and ripener + boron), experiment and the interactions. For DAA factor, the data were fitted to the mathematical equations 10% significance level by F test. For the factors treatments, experiments and DAA under four levels, the data were subjected to comparison of means by t (LSD) test 10% significance level.
