Abstract

The community policing is a recent idea and has not been broadly consolidated and analyzed in Brazil. This study intends to compare different situations where this policing strategy is being or has already been applied, considering its effects on the criminal sphere as a whole and on the social concepts of crime, criminals and police action. The purpose of this essay is to evaluate how the institutes of informal and formal types of social control are able to interconnect through the community policing promoting its effectiveness.
