Abstract The paper analyzes the successful book entitled: The Brazil and The Brazilians - portrayed in Historical and Descriptive Sketches, Daniel Parish Kidder and James Cooley Fletcher, first published in 1857, the United States. It seeks to understand the images drawn on Brazil, from the perspectives of Post Colonial Criticism and the New Cultural History.Furthermore, the investigation will also look at approaches on understanding the book as object and its circulation since the book had nine editions between 1857 and 1879, demonstrating the existence of a public interest by the U.S. about our country.
