Abstract

Several predisposing factors are described for breast disorders or secondary disorders that compromise the quality of milk of females of various species. The phenotypic characteristics of the udder are considered in the economic evaluation of a female goat for being associated with the production potential of these females. This study aims to correlate the conformation and udder health by evaluating the somatic cell count in goats. Thirty Saanen goats will be submitted to a clinical examination and measurement of parameters of udder conformation in the period before milking. The milk will be collected from each animal for assessment of cellularity by California Mastitis Test (CMT) and somatic cell count. These data will be correlated with the conformation of the udder.
