Abstract

The field control is essential in photogrammetric processes to ensure applications accuracy. Advanced techniques as direct orientation with GNSS and inertial systems have reduced the density of control points, but they aren't enough to eliminate them. Thus, some tasks that depends on human interpretation are still performed in a semi-automatically way, such as extracting features and location of interest points. The relationship among space-object dataset and image coordinates allows both indirect image orientation and improved accuracy in the process of direct orientation. The manual/interactive measurement by human operator which is restricted to the image resolution has been source of gross and random errors, it indicates an opened problem for research. In order to reduce these errors, this study proposes to use obtained scenes by omnidirectional cameras in the ground for compare them with multi-resolution aerial and orbital images (acquired by optical sensors) thus a correspondence can be established by matching techniques, based on similarity criteria. Therefore, the main objective is to automate the process of locating and accurate measurement of control points in aerial or orbital images with sub-pixel precision, using the least square method. This allows low operating costs in locating control points by hand, and improves the overall accuracy of the photogrammetric processes.
