Abstract

The vast majority of components produced by machining has at least one hole. As tolerances and finish from the previous cases (casting or drilling) are very coarse, the holes must undergo finishing processes through reamers or internal turning. The internal turning tool is a overhanged bar, subjected to cyclic cutting forces at its tip, which cause it to vibrate, hindering the achievement of tolerance and finish required and may lead to tool breakage. It is then necessary to minimize vibration without making the process more time consuming and so that possible changes made do not affect the tool life. A better understanding of the vibrations generated in the internal turning lead to a lean and cost-effective produtive process. In this paper it will be analyzed the frequency and amplitude of vibration of the tool in order to correlate them to tool wear and part finish. It is expected to find two or more sets of optimized cutting parameters that minimize the vibration at the turning tool tip and ensure the achievement of quality in the machined surface. (AU)
