Abstract

The study of the molecular mechanisms of biomolecule damage is fundamental to the understanding of redox processes and the development of biomarkers that allow studies in complex biological systems. Sensitive biomarkers can aid in understanding the cellular mechanisms involved in redox stress and have importance in the implementation of preventive strategies in several pathologies. This project aims to synthesize and characterize adducts of glutathione adducts and trans, trans-2 ,4-decadienal (DDE), aldehyde formed during the lipid peroxidation process, as a possible biomarker of redox stress. As a model we will quantify by HPLC coupled to mass spectrometry these adducts in transgenic mice model for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
