Abstract

Recently, there has been a huge concern about revealing forgeries in digital documents involving, in most cases, photograph adulteration with criminal purposes as well as frauds in scientific research results. The proliferation of photography-related frauds has led to an increasing interest in the Digital Forensics research area. Among several types of adulteration digital documents can undergo, it is of particular interest the copy-move forgery, which allows a person to mask undesirable regions of such documents by using information of the same documents. In this research project, we propose to design and deploy new methods to identify copy-move forgeries in digital documents. We examine the context in which this work belongs to and analyze the theoretical basis encompassing the most important state-of-the-art contributions. With such analysis, we intend to obtain a complete overview of the state-of-the-art and propose new solutions to some of the open issues in this research area. Finally, in addition to the new proposed methods, we aim at implementing some of the state-of-the-art approaches in a forensics library we are developing with the São Paulo Technical Police and the Brazilian Federal Police.
