Abstract

The lizards of the Tropidurus torquatus group are a specious lineage consists of predominantly saxicol forms, but with psamophilous species and species with saxicolous and psamophilous populations. Phylogenies available do not show good geographical coverage of psamophilous forms and indicate that may have occurred the independent emergence of strains that occupy sandy environments. This project aims to determine whether there has been independent occupation sandy environments by saxicol forms, using as a working hypothesis that the occupation of sandy environments is a synapomorphy of psamophilous lineages. Additionally, it is intended, using a more complete molecular and morphological sampling, a more robust phylogenetic relationship permitting testing of hypotheses proposed by phylogenies available. Based on this phylogenetic hypothesis we hope to better understand the origin and differentiation of landscapes covered by sandy soils in South America cisandina. It is intended to further clarify the taxonomic uncertainty hanging over some populations of Tropidurus torquatus group, describing them if this recommendation proposed by the results. (AU)
