Abstract

Is known that the progression of several diseases is dependent on angiogenesis. Nowadays, new therapeutic approaches for use in angiogenesis-dependent diseases difficult to treat and high mortality, like cancer, is stimulating a worldwide search for new natural and synthetic compounds, preferably low cost, for use alone or adjuvant treatment. Thus, the characterization of inhibitors of angiogenesis can cause great economic and social impact, such as the replacement of chemotherapeutic drugs imported by national origin.Studies perfomance by the group of Professor Maria Luiza V. Oliva have being demonstrated the inhibition of tumor growth in vivo by inhibitors EcTI, BBCI, BbKI and rBbKIm. Asthese molecules inhibit the action of several enzymes important in angiogenesis, such as kallikreins, matrix metalloproteinases and also in the release of nitric oxide,this study proposes to investigate the antiangiogenic potential of these protease inhibitors, andthe molecular mechanisms associated with the formation, survival and cell deathinvolved in this process.
