Abstract

This work aims to develop studies of photonics technique for detecting ultraweak light emission involving environmental parasitology and correlations with the viability of Cryptosporidium and Giardia. The methodology will be based on photon-counting measurements inside a dark-chamber with photomultiplier (PMT Hamamatsu H7360) with data acquisition performed by plate count (Hamamatsu M874), using suspensions of purified Cryptosporidium spp and Giardia spp. The results will be statistically analyzed based on the sum, average, standard deviation and frequency of photon-counting, comparing with the enumeration according to USEPA methods 1622 and 1623. With this study, it is estimated implement operational facilities and lead to short-term analysis in the viability of these protozoa.
