Abstract

Rare-earth (RE) ions based materials have several applications, which generate an increasing interest of many researchers to investigate systems doped with these ions to produce phosphors highly efficient and also to elucidate their structural features, spectroscopic and electrical properties. In this work, the matrix studied is a ceramic-based Zn7Sb2O12 that has inverse spinel type structure. The doping of this ceramic with RE ions generates materials with different properties from the original phase that can display a better performance. Therefore, the aim of this study is to use the Ce(III), Pr(III) and Eu(III) RE as doping ions in the semiconductor Zn7Sb2O12 at different percentages. The purpose to use Eu(III) as a dopant is due to its versatility to act as a structural probe, and the inclusion of Ce(III) and Pr(III) is because of their possible application when doping this ceramic as a scintillator material, since there are little information in the literature related to the spectroscopic parameters of luminescence efficiency and efficiency parameters of scintillation for this compound doped with these ions. Preliminary studies were made using the doping-type Zn73xRE2xSb2O12 [RE = Ce (III), Pr (III) and Eu (III)], which indicated that high percentages of inclusion of RE ions do not modify the inverse spinel type structure and have potential application as luminescent material, which fully justifies the central idea of this project, which is continuing this work further deepening the study of this matrix doped with RE ions.
