Abstract

The patients with chronic hepatitis C need of a complex treatment that includes a set of techniques and skills to be developed and maintained throughout this period. Among the strategies used to improve adherence, research has pointed to the importance of educational activities to inform and guide patients about their disease and treatment. The study design with pre and post-test, and aims to identify the level of patient knowledge about hepatitis C and treatment before and after educational intervention and evaluate together participants the adequacy of the contents of an educational handbook. Instruments will be used to collect data such as the interview guide, a test to assess the level of knowledge about the disease and an inventory to identify behaviors related to treatment adherence. After assessing prior knowledge about the disease at baseline, there will be an educational intervention that will use a teaching manual to expand the vision of the participants about the disease and treatment. In a second phase, 12 weeks after initiation of treatment will be reapplied a test of knowledge about treatment and a roadmap for evaluating the educational manual, and an inventory of treatment adherence. After 12 weeks of this application will be reapplied inventory of treatment adherence. Participate in this study patients with chronic hepatitis C who have never been subjected to treatment with antiviral medications. The study highlights the importance of using specific graphic material on educational and health indicates the need for further research and interventions that promote self-management strategies that favor the disease.
