Abstract

The understanding of pulmonary crackle and the liquid bridge formation have been attracting the scientist attention for centuries. In 2006, a new math model was developed to explain rupture of liquid bridge on airway [Alencar et al. 2006]. In this project, we will characterize the thermodynamics properties of our current liquid bridge model using methods of statistical mechanics. First, we will estimate the critical temperature, the effect of temperature and scale changes, and the specific heat, among other thermodynamic properties. Then, we will change the system geometry in other to understand how it affects the stability of liquid bridge. Finally, amphiphilic particles will be added to the model. The steps of characterization will be repeated. Therefore, we expect to full characterize the liquid bridge model in terms of statistical mechanics and create a detailed way of thermodynamics characterization to be used in future projects in our laboratory.
