Abstract

This project has two goals:1-) the taxonomic survey of the species of polychaetes belonging to the family Syllidae found in the Araçá Bay, São Sebastião (SP). The identifications will be done based on morphological characters examined under light microscope and, when the number of specimens and their state of preservation permit, also under the scanning electron microscope, with the aid of updated literature;2-) study of the process of formation and development of eggs and juveniles in both types of incubation methods found in the subfamily Exogoninae. For this purpose, we will analyze specimens of Erinaceusyllis centroamericana (Hartmann-Schröder, 1959) and Exogone (Exogone) breviantennata Hartmann-Schröder, 1959, exogonineans which show, respectively, dorsal incubation of eggs and ventral incubation of eggs and juveniles. Such investigation will be mainly through scanning electron microscopy of external reproductive structures and ultrastructural analysis of the development of these structures, by means of the study of histological seriated sections under transmission electron microscope.
