Abstract

The development of the secondary palate is a critical event in craniofacial development and it is dependent of extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling performed by matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their inhibitors, secreted into ECM (TMPs) or membrane-anchored (RECK). MMPs are endopeptidases zinc-dependent that, collectivelly, can cleavage ECM components and generate biactive molecules. Recently, our research group reported that MMPs (-2, -3 and -9) as well as RECK are differentially expressed during palatogenesis, suggesting a refined controlo f ECM remodeling in this process. In this way, few is known about presence and function of membrane-type MMPs (MT-MMPs) during craniofacial development. Thus, this project will continue our previously study, evaluating MT-MMPs (from MT1-MMP to MT6-MMP), TIMPs (-1 and -2) and RECK protein level during palatogenesis in mice embryos (from E13 to E15) by western blot.
