Abstract

Developmental Dyslexia has a main deficit the effective word recognition, and this which is a complex cognitive processing due perceptual skills, language and later stages of information integration.Event-related potential measures in high-density EEG allow analyses, with high precision timing, brain activity in subjects with Developmental Dyslexia in lexical decision tasks. Indeed, children and adults with Developmental Dyslexia, present latency and amplitude potential pattern concerning the different stages of perceptual processing, orthographic and semantic for word recognition. Such patterns indicate basic deficits and the use of compensatory mechanisms and/or inefficient to reading. The present research project aims to measure and compare the pattern of cognitive event-related potentials of children (Study 1) and adults (Study 2) with and without Dyslexia during reading tasks and in a Lexical Decision Making task. Will participate of Study 1 twenty children diagnosed with Developmental Dyslexia aged between 9 and 14 years and twenty children good readers matched for gender, age and education. Will participate of Study 2 twenty university aged between 18 and 30 years diagnosed with Developmental Dyslexia and twenty good readers matched for gender, age and education level. All participants will undergo a battery of neuropsychological tests and computerized tests of reading and writing. For electrophysiological recordings of evoked potentials will be used the equipment of high-density EEG is the Geodesic EEG System 300 with EGI Net Station and HydrogelCel Geodesics, which contains 128 electrodes placed on the scalp. It will also be used E-Prime software to synchronize the presentation of stimuli to the collection of the EGG. The task will consist of a test of lexical decision making. Stimuli psycholinguistic tasks are balanced with the psycholinguistic properties of Portuguese (frequency, regularity and length). For data analysis will be conducted ANOVA, ANCOVA, t-tests and Pearson correlations to verify differences between groups.
