Abstract

The distance was constituted from LDB/96 as a legitimate form of training. In this context, the courses of initial teacher training in higher education are the main target of the experiments performed in this mode, and the Pedagogy course representing a significant portion of these offerings. In 2006, the Open University of Brazil (UAB) is created having as priority the provision of teacher training through distance education, in partnership with higher education institutions, especially public. The training models for teachers in distance education have new elements and professionals. The tutoring and the tutor became parts of these models. And this bring a series of political, educational and professional discussions. Research on the distance formative processes of teachers indicate from one side, the possibilities and developing new training paradigms. On the other hand, banality, and precariousness dichotomies. A new chelating agent shall share the responsibility for training teachers: the tutor. Against this backdrop, the present study represents from questions about: 1 Mentoring courses in Pedagogy of the UAB partner HEIs; 2. How and under what conditions these courses, the tutor is his professionalism as an agent training. Using a qualitative approach and descriptive -explanatory design, the research has as instruments: document analysis, interviews and questionnaires. Data will be analyzed using content analysis and simple statistical treatment. We hope the results allow us to more accurate understandings about mentoring in initial teacher training distance and how has constituted the professionalization of tutor. (AU)
