Abstract

When we discuss the aspects of feminism in a literary work, it is necessary to identify some different types of feminist literary critics, such as the socio-feminist, the semio-feminists, the psico-feminist among others. In this work we first investigate by means of two literary works, A Fairly Honourable Defeat (1970) by the Irish novelist Iris Murdoch (1919-1999) and La Femme Rompue (1967) by Simone de Beauvoir (1908-1986), the manifestations of the critical socio-feminist present in the characterizations of female characters that make up these two works. Subsequently, we intend to develop a study of the female condition in the British and French society since the end of the Second War until the early seventies, a period that covers much of the literary production of these authors and has seen great changes that contributed to the emancipation of women. Finally, we are interested in researching how certain passages of one of the most renowned works of Simone de Beauvoir, Le Deuxième Sexe (1949), dialogue with some passages of La Femme Rompue and The Fairly Honourable Defeat. We opted for a comparative study of these two literary works, A Fairly Honourable Defeat and La Femme Rompue, believing that both portray through the fictional universe some of the dilemmas, fears and thoughts that guided the study of the feminism in many ways favoring some of the achievements and the respect women acquired in relation to various aspects of their social, professional and political lives.
