Abstract

Opilioacarida is a taxon consisting in a single family, Opilioacaridae, and the 35 taxons are currently placed in eleven genera. The genera is restricted to american continent, presenting 10 species in this region. In the South America, there are only two records of this genera, Neocarus platensis (Silvestri) (Argentina, Uruguai and south of Brasil) and Neocarus ojastii Lehtinen (Venezuela). Recent keys include only North and Central American species, because the description of N. platensis and N. ojastii are incomplete and the multiple unpublished records in Brazil. The proposal of this study is a taxonomic review and phylogenetic analysis of genera Neocarus, providing a key and mapping the geographical distribution. The material of this study consists in already collected surveys at different localities of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais; obtained by loan from other Institutions; and by additional expeditions to collect where the group was previously recorded. The additional collects will include pitfall trap, winkler extractor and manual collect. The phylogeny hypothesis will be elaborated using as base the morphological characters previously commented on the literature, considered relevant to identification of genera and species and, as outgroup, Caribeacarus Vázquez & Klompen and Panchaetes Naudo genera, by similar morphology and distribution to Neocarus and Gondwana distribution, respectively; as well specimens of the suborders Oribatida and Ixodida, considered basal groups. The distribution of N. platensis can range Southeast Brazil, and is possible the multiple records can be new species. The African genera can be present in Brazil and the other way around. (AU)
