Abstract

Crop-livestock integration is defined as "productive systems of grains, meat, milk, wool, and others, performed in the same area, simultaneously sowing, sequential, or rotational, aiming at sustainability." It is estimated that approximately 5% of the annual crops already engaging in some degree this technology, and increased adoption of this technique by farmers. The production of silage using Panicum, Brachiaria and Cynodon grasses, among others, has limitations to overcome, due to the fact that these grasses contain low levels of dry matter, low levels of soluble carbohydrates and high buffering capacity at the time of ensiling. Thus, studies with corn silage in the crop-livestock systems are essential so that we can establish new point and time to harvest the plant to optimize the fermentation pattern and utilization of nutrients, since work on the subject are scarce and reported in literature. The research aimed to evaluate the corn silage in the intercrop with Marandu grass (B. brizantha cv. Marandu) in no-tillage system. The experiment is a randomized complete block with four replications in a factorial 2x2x2 +1, with two heights of cut for silage (20 and 45 cm above the surface of the soil), two sampling points (35% dry matter and the physiological maturity of corn), and two forms of processing (crushed and not crushed) and a exclusive maize treatment, serving as a contrast. Be evaluated: the rate of participation in the mass of each species to be silage, aerobic stability and quantitative and qualitative characteristics corn silage derived from the crop-livestock system and exclusive maize.
