Abstract

The Brazilian sheep herd is growing and their management is intensifying. Increased occurrences of omasal and abosamal ulcers seem to be a consequence and are of importance in animal welfare and productivity. Ranitidine is used in prevention and treatment of the affection. There is no information on dosage for parenteral use of this drug in sheep for the mentioned indication. Data on associated metabolic changes as well as information on mechanical behavior of involved compartments are scarce. Determination of hematological and serum values of major actors, content of gastric compartments and utilization of diagnostic imaging techniques aim to obtain complementary information on the affection and validate non invasive techniques that could help in her detection and follow-up.
