Abstract

Ferromagnetic order in itinerant electron systems remains a major challenge in the theory of strongly correlated electron systems. Recent interest in this problem has been motivated by experiments with new compounds and with systems of cold atoms in optical traps. In this project, we propose to study properties of one-dimensional systems with long-range magnetic order (ferromagnetic Luttinger liquids) using analytical quantum field theory techniques. We intend to investigate the effect of the coupling between charge and spin on correlation functions, distinguishing between systems with discrete Ising-type spin symmetry and SU(2) symmetry. (AU)
