Abstract

This project aims to investigate the importance of psychoanalytic works of Arthur Ramos dedicated to education within the context of scientific, cultural and social development of Brazil in the 1930s, and situate them regarding the psychoanalysis in the country at the time, identifying the major theoretical influences of his works and establishing relationships between the author's works of psychoanalytic slant and educational proposals of the New School at the time in Brazilian education. Arthur Ramos is considered one of the pioneers of psychoanalysis in Brazil and, from the 1930s, when he moved to Rio de Janeiro and started acting at the "Clinica de ortofrenia e higiene mental do Rio de Janeiro", the theory gained space in his work, present in "A criança problema" (1934), for example, which the author discusses the possibility of psychoanalysis, along with the New School movement, collaborating with the education of the time. This research is important to consider the relevance of the relationship between education and psychoanalysis formed in Brazil during the twentieth century, and how this history has influenced the way we currently use psychoanalytic theory in educational contexts. To do this we will carry out a qualitative study of psychoanalytic works of Arthur Ramos dedicated to education, using an appropriate methodology to historical research on psychoanalysis and focusing on the contextual approach, that is to establish relations between psychoanalysis and other disciplines.
