Abstract

This project intends to analyze the actions of ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability, an organization of governments acting within the scope of public policy, promoting a dialogue of the same with the scientific community. The issue of climate change has been discussed intensively in recent decades because of the perception of the consequences of human intervention in nature, and the analysis of these consequences are considered a tool for the optimal development of adaptation policies, as well as mitigation of potential environmental impacts. ICLEI was chosen to be studied precisely for its proposal to encourage discussion and policy development for climate issues and, along with it, came an interest in investigating the role of this organization in the environmental awareness of civil society.Through a field study, we intend to prepare a report expressing the effectiveness or otherwise of the actions of ICLEI, and the choice of action for future analysis will be as your application and its actuality. In Brazil, there are two "host cities", São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, defined as cities that support the ICLEI with donations, providing professional, physical structure, etc.. This research will begin at the investigations headquarters located in the city of São Paulo, to raise the actions of ICLEI in Brazil and in the future, if possible, follow some of them closer together in order to complete the survey. To support the empirical analysis will be carried out searches of academic articles and through libraries accessible public universities that meshes the theories of environmental research. (AU)
