Abstract The film Palavra e Utopia (2000), a sort of Father Antonio Vieira biography, will be the Manoel de Oliveira cinematography's guideline, based, mainly, on the nietzschean eternal return issue. Following this philosophical concept, we will manage to clarify the assumption (and persistence) of a handful of evident motives brought by the portuguese film-maker; essencially, we will research Antonio Vieira's bibliography, managing to retain his mentioning texture (directly or undirectly) on this or others films of this same film-maker. By doing so, we expect to contribute in the research of Manoel de Oliveira's work, such as to expose his objective reading of the text to the context of the seventeenth-century author. The meditation will be around the narrative structure of the filmic biography, wich will allow, still, the approach of the inner characteristics of this literary genre "borrowed" from cinema.
