Abstract

The main objective of our reserch project is the use of gaussian wave packets to study the laser beam propagation thorugh stratified dielectrics and non-linear atomic media. Most of the papers which appear in litterature use the plane wave formalsim. The introduction of the wave packet formalism allows a more appropriate desccription of physical systems setup which can be reproduced in optical experiments. In the limit in which the beaam dimension is much larger than the experimental aparatus, we have to reproduce the results obtained in the plane wave description.
