Abstract

The main motivation of this work is the development of methods and their application to the identification of the structures formed by galaxies in photometric catalogs. The study of structures is very important in cosmology for our understanding of the processes ruling galaxy evolution, as well as to determine the cosmological models that better describe the Universe as a whole. We shall develop algorithms to identify and study systems with few galaxies, such as galaxy triplets and quadruplets, as well as richer structures, like galaxy clusters. The algorithms will be tested on mock catalogs, before being applied to real data. These studies will be performed with the catalogs produced by large surveys, like the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Legacy Survey, as well as to simulated catalogs for the project Javalambre Physics of the Accelerating Universe Astrophysical Survey (J-PAS)). We will also investigate the power of J-PAS for doing cosmology with galaxy clusters. (AU)
