Abstract

Bibliographic research with analytical and comparative style about Antonio Manuel's production (1947-). This work aims to contribute to an enlargement of the possibilities of comprehension about the artist's production through a philosophical point of view. In order to achieve it, relations will be established between the artist and Merleau-Ponty's body conception, philosopher relevant to the development of many artists of the same period that Manuel, but that doesn't appear directly at his artworks. The research also touches performance and action theories to sustain the analysis, which is divided in three moments: it begins with the examination of one artwork chosen as propeller (O corpo é a obra, 1970); unfolds to an analysis of the general production having as focus the notes obtained at the first moment to, at last, outline the points of relation between Antonio Manuel and Merleau-Ponty.
