Abstract

This project aims to prepare solid dispersions of praziquantel using two types of carriers: mannitol and polyoxylglyceride. The solid dispersions will be prepared using two processes: co-precipitation and fusion and will be made to compare the solubility of these dispersions with the physical mixture and pure praziquantel. First will be the evaluation of solid dispersions by the method of determination and thermal behavior of praziquantel, the physical mixtures and solid dispersions will be done using thermoanalytical techniques: Thermogravimetry - Simultaneous Differential Thermal Analysis (TG-DTA) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and characterization will be done using Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray powder diffractometry and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). In the second stage of the project aims to investigate the solubility, dissolution rate and bioavailability in all systems studied. The main contribution of this project is expected the application of solid dispersions in order to increase the solubility, dissolution and bioavailability of praziquantel. (AU)
