Abstract

The project here proposed deals with the development of vaporization and atomization systems using a tungsten coil resistively heated and high power tungsten lamps for generating infrared radiation. These systems will be applied for elemental analysis of waters and plant materials. Heating programs will be established for each device by controlling the applied current and the main concomitants will be removed by volatilization. The use of both devices as vaporizer and atomizer systems will generate low cost instruments when compared to the ones using either graphite furnaces or argon plasmas. The simultaneous determination of metals will be studied by atomic emission spectrometry and atomic fluorescence spectrometry using a multichannel array detector based on a charge-coupled device.
