Abstract

The principal goal of this research project is to compare nuclear matter properties at zero and finite temperatures, obtained using Skyrme and relativistic models of the effective nuclear interaction, to experimental constraints. The project is an extension of the thesis work performed by the candidate, which was limited to a comparison of a large number of Skyrme interactions to the experimental data at zero temperature. At finite temperatures, the study of nuclear matter properties will be extended to finite nuclei, where the surface and Coulomb energies play an important role in fixing the equation of state and critical temperature of hot nuclei.
