The present project is part of multiple efforts that are being carried out by different groups in order to understand the mysteries that are behind cosmic acceleration. The cause of this acceleration constitutes the main open problem in the cosmology field and can be the result of the existence of an unknown cosmic component (dark energy) or of the modification of gravity on large scales. In this regard, it is important to analyze and to distinguish possible mechanisms responsible for cosmic acceleration. This project aims at investigating and comparing theoretical aspects of models dark energy and modified gravity as well as possible correlations between them. Moreover, in order to test the observacional viability of the cosmological scenarios that will be investigated, we also will use current type Ia supernovae, cosmic microwave background and baryonic acoustic oscillations data.
