Analysis of clinical and laboratory characteristics of pediatric patients followed at the Secundary Immunodeficiency Ambulatory of HC-UNICAMP

Abstract

The goals of this study are to collect clinical and laboratory information directly from the medical charts of pediatric patients, carriers of the HIV virus, followed at the Secondary Immunodeficiency Ambulatory of HC-UNICAMP; to register the information collected and to compare them to themselves and to the literature. The intention is to have, for all practical purposes, medical-scientific data on the impingement of the disease in the health of these patients. The study is retrospective, about 200 medical charts belong to the patients followed at the pediatric ambulatory of HC-UNICAMP that were tested positive for HIV and they will be analyzed from June 2011 to May 2012. The age range is from 0 to 18 years old, for both genders. Information like name, age, gender, register number, diagnostic hypothesis, opportunist infection, use of antibiotics, and hospitalizations associated with secondary immunodeficiency will be organized in descriptive charts, comparative texts, and frequency charts. With this study, it is expected to find different clinical and laboratory manifestations caused by the HIV virus in pediatric patients, contributing to improving the therapeutical orientation and the psychological and social support to the patients and their relatives.(AU)
