Abstract

Introduction: The effects of tooth movement to atrophic alveolar ridge areas need to be clarified to check whether the movement is accompanied by alveolar bone, increasing the thickness of the labial edentulous ridge, or results in the tooth bone dehiscence moved. Objective: The aim of this study is to verify the consequences of periodontal moving to permanent second molars edge atrophic areas occasioned by the loss of the first molars. The null hypothesis is that the tooth movement to areas of atrophic alveolar ridge does not cause negative periodontal consequences. Material and Methods: The experimental group (group I) of this prospective study will be composed of 15 patients with no permanent first molars unilaterally who will undergo orthodontic treatment with the closure of extraction space. The control group (group II) will consist of 15 patients with no permanent first molars unilaterally or bilaterally whose orthodontic treatment will preserve the edentulous space for prosthetic rehabilitation. Patients will undergo a periodontal evaluation encompassing: Probing depth, bleeding on probing index, clinical attachment level and gingival recession before and after orthodontic mechanics. A CT scan cone beam (i-Cat, Hartsfield, PA, USA) with a field of view of 6 cm and 0.2 mm voxel (40 seconds and 36.12 mAs) will be held after the completion of orthodontic treatment. In CBCT images will be measured the thickness of the alveolar ridge in the edentulous region, as well as the depth and level of the buccal and lingual alveolar bone of the second molars and second premolars digital method using the software Nemoscan (Nemotec, Spain .) Comparison of clinical periodontal interphases will be performed by the paired t test. Intergroup comparison will be performed by independent t test. Will be adopted significance level of 5%.
