Abstract

Among the many studies that seek solutions to the challenges faced by the construction industry, Target Costing (TC) is a topic that has attracted increasing interest from researchers in the field of construction management due to the good results obtained in its use in the product development process in companies of the manufacturing industry. In Brazil, research studies have proposed that TC can be applied to the development of social housing projects. Results of these studies show that low levels of collaboration between stakeholders are a challenge in the TC application in construction. Currently, there is very little understanding in construction of what collaboration really means, what actions it implies and what responsibilities it puts on collaborating parties. In particular, there are knowledge gaps regarding how TC principles can be extended throughout the construction supply chain. This research aims to investigate how to improve the buyer-supplier interface in construction supply chains. Case study will be adopted as the research strategy. Results of this research could aid wider TC applications especially in the construction context of emerging economies (e.g., Brazil), by means of developing a more collaborative interaction in typical construction supply chains.
