Abstract

The aim of this work is to study the histology and morphometry of female cat ovaries in different age groups. For this purpose, 30 cats from a university extension project will be classified into Group 1 (young up to one year), Group 2 (one to seven years), and Group 3 (older than seven years). After ovariosalpingohysterectomy (OSH) the ovaries will be sectioned and processed for histology. The maximum and minimum diameter (m), area (mm), and perimeter (mM) of the follicle and its oocyte of primordial follicles, primary unilaminar, multilaminar primary, or preantral, secondary or antral and preovulatory follicles or Graafian will be measured. The relationship between the oocyte and follicle growth will be analyzed. Differentiation and selection of healthy and atretic follicles will also be realized. Results will be submitted for analysis of variance (ANOVA) and mean compared by the Tukey test. Statistical analysis will be performed with the computer program SAS (Statistical Analysis System) version 9.2.(AU)
